The museum cleverly integrates a preserved pre-war building the former Chiba branch of the Kawasaki Bank. This beautifully complements the modern structure. The museum’s collection is truly special. It boasts three main pillars. One is Japanese paintings and prints from the early modern to modern era. Another is contemporary art since 1945. The third is works related to Boso primarily from Chiba City. The museum’s unique exhibitions result from collaborations across Japan and internationally.
Did you know that in July 2020 the entire building underwent a significant renovation? It reopened as a fully enhanced museum experience. New additions included a dedicated permanent exhibition room.
