In August 2023, a remarkable feat of engineering unfolded near the Mandichosee. The Schaffner-Bruck, a new bridge, was installed. This bridge replaced the old Lochbach bridge. It now elegantly spans the gap, reconnecting the path to the serene waters of Mandichosee. The Schaffner-Bruck isn’t just a bridge. It’s a symbol of collaboration and community spirit. It forms a key part of a larger project, the Naturlehrpfad (nature trail). The Schaffner-Bruck stands on land owned by the municipality of Merching, not Königsbrunn. This unusual circumstance added complexity to the project. The construction of the Schaffner-Bruck and the nature trail required a lengthy process. Property rights needed clarification. Agreements had to be made with private landowners. Approvals were needed from both Merching and Augsburg. Every step was carefully coordinated with the environmental protection agency. The Schaffner-Bruck also represents the generosity of many. Funding for the nature trail came from LEADER and a regional association for recreational areas (EVA).
