Alsancak Mahallesi is a district in Ankara, Turkey. It’s a bustling neighborhood filled with homes, apartments, businesses, and even a public health laboratory. It was built in 1924, when Atatürk ordered 50 homes to be built to accommodate Turkish refugees from Bulgaria. The name of the place was originally “Ahi Mesut”. But in 1940, soon after Atatürk’s death, the neighborhood was renamed to “Alsancak” in his honor. Many public buildings here, including the hospital and the post office, were built by his order and are still standing today. They are a testament to Atatürk’s vision for the future of Ankara.
