Imagine a pearl resting gently on the earth. That is how Moti Doongri Fort got its name. Moti means pearl and Doongri means hill. We are standing before Moti Doongri Fort. It is an architectural gem blending Rajput and Scottish styles.

Moti Doongri Fort sits on a small hill in Jaipur. It overlooks the city’s cultural landscape. The fort is near the Moti Doongri Ganesh Temple and Birla Mandir.

Built in the 18th century, Moti Doongri Fort was once a royal residence. It has witnessed key moments in Jaipur’s history. Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II built the fort. Today, the defense serves as a private residence of the royal family of Jaipur. Though the fort is closed to the public, its exterior beauty attracts many visitors.

The hill is 400 meters above sea level. It offers panoramic views of Jaipur’s skyline. Many come here to witness the beautiful sunset.

Near the Moti Doongri Fort is the Moti Doongri Ganesh Temple. A legend tells of a king of Mewar. He was returning home with a Ganesh idol on a bullock cart. The king declared he would build a temple wherever the cart stopped. The cart stopped at the foot of Moti Doongri. The temple was built there. Seth Jai Ram Paliwal and Mahant Shiv Narain built the temple. Construction was completed in 1761. The temple’s design is inspired by a Scottish castle. It is constructed in the shape of a pagoda.

The temple premise covers a span of 2 km. Its building has three domes. They signify the three main religions followed in the country. Intricate latticework in marble accentuates the beauty of this temple. The walls are adorned with scenes from mythology.

Adjacent to Moti Doongri Fort is the Birla Mandir. The Birla family built it in the late 1980s. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. The temple is made of white marble. It offers a serene atmosphere for prayers and meditation.

When visiting Moti Doongri Fort, keep a few things in mind. Modest attire is recommended. This is especially important if visiting the nearby Ganesh Temple. The fort’s hill location means some uphill walking or climbing. Be mindful of local customs and traditions.

Moti Doongri Fort offers a captivating blend of history and architectural splendor. The elegance and historical charm make it a must-see landmark in the Pink City. Its picturesque surroundings enhance its allure. Whether you marvel at the fort’s exterior or visit the Ganesh Temple, Moti Doongri is unforgettable.
