“Two hundred and twenty-one years” booms the echo from Oakland Church’s very walls. That’s right. We’re standing before Oakland Church. It celebrated its 221st anniversary in 2017.

Oakland Missionary Baptist Church marked over two centuries of service. That is service to both God and the surrounding community. The anniversary celebration took place in October 2017. It was a week-long event filled with nightly services and special Sunday worship.

The theme was “221 Years of Abiding in the Vine Great is God’s Faithfulness.” The scripture was taken from Lamentations 3:22-23. It highlighted God’s unwavering mercy and faithfulness throughout the years.

The week included guest speakers. Pastor John Kennedy from Second Saint Luke Baptist Church was among them. Many from the Savannah community joined in the celebration. They worshiped and acknowledged the church’s long-standing commitment.

Oakland Church is more than just a building. It’s a testament to faith and community spirit. It is a landmark that has stood for generations. It continues to invite everyone. Everyone is welcome to partake in its services.

The church clerk Sis. Irene G. Hines helped organize this special celebration. Deacon Harry Frazier. He is the Chairman of the Deacons’ Ministry. He ensured the event ran smoothly. Rev. Jerry Wright. He is Oakland Missionary Baptist Church’s pastor. He led the congregation in worship and reflection.

Oakland Church extends its welcome. It is more than just during anniversaries. It is every Sunday. Services include Sunday School and regular worship.

Remember Oakland Missionary Baptist Church. It is more than a historical landmark. It’s a beacon of faith. It stands tall. It is ready to embrace its community. It is ready for more years of service.
