The Leo-Statz-Berufskolleg stands proudly on Friedenstrasse in Düsseldorf, a testament to a legacy of education and a dedication to the future. This school, or vocational college, was born in 1967. You might not know it, though, because this building has a much longer past. It once housed a gymnasium, but in the early 1900s, after the city of Düsseldorf grew, it became the site of a Volksschule, a type of primary school. Built in 1905 and 1906, it was part of a bigger complex that included a bathhouse and a gym. It was bustling with students and teachers for years, but in 1967, the school was split – it was then that the trade school, Leo-Statz-Berufskolleg, was established, a tribute to the namesake, who fought against the Third Reich. The building is protected by cultural monument regulations since 2005 for its architectural design.
