Dream of escaping the city’s chaos? Bucureștii Noi might just be your answer. Bucureștii Noi translates to “New Bucharest”. It is a district in the northwestern part of Bucharest. This area offers a unique blend of tranquility and accessibility.

Once known as Măicănești or Grefoaicele, Bucureștii Noi was owned by Nicolae Bazilescu. In the late 19th century, he donated part of his land for streets and parks. This marked the beginning of Bucureștii Noi’s transformation.

For a while, Bucureștii Noi was part of the Băneasa commune. Then it became part of Grivița town. In the 1950s, it was integrated into Bucharest. The area saw construction of apartment blocks reflecting Stalinist architecture. Later, in the mid-1960s, more modernist 10-story buildings appeared.

Today, Bucureștii Noi is a rapidly growing district. New houses and supermarkets are constantly being built. The neighborhood centers around Bazilescu Park, also known as Nicholas Bălcescu Park. Opposite the park stands the Bazilescu Church.

The streets of Bucureștii Noi are laid out in a grid pattern. This creates symmetrical plots suitable for houses or small apartment blocks. You will find penthouses and modern villas. These offer an alternative to communist-era apartment blocks. Bucureștii Noi has become a popular choice for families seeking private courtyards.

Bucureștii Noi boasts excellent infrastructure. Paved streets, well-maintained sewage, water, gas, and electricity systems are standard. Parks, swimming pools, kindergartens, schools, markets, and retail stores enhance the quality of life. Soon, a large shopping mall will also be available.

The area’s fauna and flora are well-preserved. Lake Grivița borders Bucureștii Noi to the north and east. This contributes to a fresh-air environment.

Getting around from Bucureștii Noi is easy. Otopeni Airport and Piața Victoriei are readily accessible. The Parc Bazilescu metro station serves the district. Also, the Bucureștii Noi train station connects Bucharest to Timișoara.

ZUBN is another name for Bucureștii Noi. It comprises seven neighborhoods including Bazilescu, Băneasa Sud, Chitila Triaj and Costeasca. Dămăroaia, Pajura, and Străulești Sud are also included. One in three residents of Sector 1 lives here. One in five hectares of Sector 1 land is within ZUBN.

The “official” birthdate of ZUBN is September 25, 1925. On this day, Grivița, Bucureștii Noi, and Chitila Triaj were united. They formed a new rural commune in Ilfov county named Grivița.

In 1950, Grivița became an urban area of Bucharest. Its initial inhabitants included locals and people from across Romania. These newcomers arrived in two waves, after World War I and during the “people’s power” era.

Bucureștii Noi is a vibrant mix of old and new. It is a testament to Bucharest’s evolving urban landscape. Take a stroll and discover its unique charm.
