Founded in May 1966 as a small storefront mission the Mt Airy Church of God in Christ has blossomed into a landmark. It began with just sixteen Sunday school children. Today it boasts a congregation of over 3000. This incredible growth is a testament to the vision of its founders and the unwavering faith of its members. Bishop Ernest C Morris Sr laid the groundwork for this thriving community. He oversaw the expansion and remarkable remodeling projects. All this without incurring any loans.
The current Senior Pastor Bishop J Louis Felton has continued this legacy. Since 2010 he has overseen over $1000000 in capital improvements and ministry development. The church’s impact extends far beyond its walls. It plays a vital role in the Philadelphia community. Mt Airy has a rich history of social service. This includes running shelters like Bethesda Manor and Stenton Family Manor. These shelters provide vital services to hundreds of homeless men women and children annually. The church also offers vocational training and counseling.
The Mt Airy Church of God in Christ is more than just a place of worship. It’s a vibrant hub of activity. It houses numerous ministries and auxiliaries. Mt Airy hosted the National Men Perfecting Men Conference in 2017. It celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2016. This event was marked by a souvenir journal and a banquet.
