This imposing military complex, with its austere yet elegant design, dates back to the early 20th century. Construction of Caserma Montello began in 1910, a time when Milan was rapidly growing and modernizing. Designed by Lieutenant Colonel Garibaldi and built by the Genio Militare, the barracks were initially intended for the Italian Cavalry. The complex was strategically positioned near Corso Sempione, a bustling artery of the city. Today, Caserma Montello sprawls across a vast area. Its rectangular layout centers around a large parade ground, now transformed into a soccer field. The main building, an imposing three-story structure with robust arched entrances, stretches along Via Caracciolo. This building housed the barracks’ primary functions, including accommodation and offices.
