Beneath our feet lies a field rich with local sporting history. This is Limhamns idrottsplats. This stadium stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of football in Malmö. Limhamns IP is more than just a sports field. It is a community hub where local teams battle it out.
Limhamns IP’s story is intertwined with the fortunes of its resident clubs. IF Limhamn Bunkeflo has called this ground home since 2008. Limhamns FF joined them in 2010. This collaboration makes Limhamns IP a focal point for football in the region.
Originally, the stadium had a natural grass surface. In 2012, a significant renovation transformed the field. The natural grass was replaced with artificial turf. This upgrade allows for year-round play regardless of the weather. The renovation also saw the removal of the running track. It was replaced with a 100-meter sprint track on one end. This change shows the venue’s focus on football.
Limhamns IP has a capacity of 2,800 spectators. It creates an intimate atmosphere for fans. The energy here is palpable during matches as supporters cheer. The stadium lacks floodlights. For matches requiring them, teams use Malmö IP as an alternative.
Interestingly, Limhamns IP is next to Limhamns sports hall and Bergaskolan. During the summer, the school uses the sports field for physical education. This makes it a versatile space for both sports and education.
Limhamns FF, founded in 2009, also plays its home matches here. The club has climbed through the divisions of Swedish football. Currently, they compete in Division 4 Skåne Sydvästra.
Limhamns idrottsplats embodies local sportsmanship. So, take a moment to appreciate the footballers who have graced this ground.
