In the vibrant tapestry of Los Angeles, Harbor Baptist Church stands as a beacon of faith, hope, and healing. Pastor Israel Solomon’s dream took root in 2020, not amidst towering steeples and stained glass, but within the humble walls of 54th Street Elementary School. Harbor Baptist Church’s grand opening on January 5th drew a crowd of over 250 souls, eager to embrace this new spiritual home. This wasn’t a church born from a split or a relocation. Harbor Baptist Church emerged from a unique journey, a testament to the power of generational shifts and evolving spiritual needs. The story begins within another church, a first-generation Ethiopian congregation grappling with language and cultural barriers. In 2006, a bridge was built in the form of a Youth & Young Adult Pastor, hired to connect with the second-generation Ethiopian-American high school graduates. This led to the creation of Paradigm, a ministry that blossomed and grew alongside the young adults it served. Over 12 years, Paradigm evolved from a youth ministry into something more. The first generation recognized its potential, nurturing its development into a church that reflected the vibrant South Central neighborhood. Pastor Israel Solomon, raised up from within Paradigm, led this transition. He and a dedicated 28-person launch team ushered in the era of Harbor Baptist Church LA. Now connected with the Evangelical Covenant Church, Harbor Baptist Church benefits from the support and experience of this multi-ethnic network. It stands as a testament to Pastor Solomon’s vision: a space of home, healing, and hope, grounded in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
