What was once a simple log schoolhouse is now the New Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church. Today, we stand before a testament to faith and perseverance that has stood for over 150 years. The New Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church was founded on August 23, 1863. A small group of eleven devout individuals came together with a shared vision. They named their burgeoning community “Promise Land” after T.J. Wells, an early settler, declared that he had “found the land of promise.” The church, initially housed in that humble log schoolhouse, quickly became a cornerstone of the community. Legend has it that the very first service drew such a crowd that the building couldn’t contain them all. That’s the spirit that built the New Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church – a spirit of faith and community that resonates even today. Over the years, the New Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church has grown alongside its community. It transitioned through many facilities, each a little larger than the last, to accommodate its burgeoning congregation. Through it all, the heart of the church has remained steadfast. It’s a place where people gather not just to worship but to connect, support each other, and build a better future together.
