Have you ever wondered where Chengdu’s sleek metro trains rest and receive their check-ups? That place is the Yuanhua Depot. The Yuanhua Depot is more than just a parking lot for trains. It is a vital hub. It ensures the smooth operation of Chengdu Metro’s Line 9.
Line 9 officially opened on December 18, 2020. It represents a significant step forward in Chengdu’s public transportation. The line is an extension of the existing Chengdu Metro system.
One of Line 9’s notable features is its full automation. It is the first fully automated ATO GoA 4 metro line in Chengdu. This means driverless trains. These trains glide efficiently along the tracks. Yuanhua Depot plays a crucial role in maintaining these advanced trains.
Think of Yuanhua Depot as a giant, well-organized garage. Here, trains undergo regular maintenance. Mechanics ensure every component works perfectly. This includes the bogies, those wheel assemblies that keep the train on track. The facility is designed for maintenance of 300 trains. Each train has eight cars. That is a lot of rolling stock to keep in top condition.
The maintenance at Yuanhua Depot isn’t just basic cleaning. It handles level 3, level 4, and level 5 maintenance for CRH2 model EMUs. It can also handle level 3 maintenance for CRH1 model EMUs. These levels indicate the depth and complexity of the work performed. Level 5 is the most comprehensive.
The bogie maintenance workshop is a key part of the depot. Its dimensions are impressive. It measures 468 meters long. Its width varies from 15 to 24 meters. This workshop is equipped for level 3 and level 4 maintenance on the bogies. Here, technicians work on wheel brake discs, axle gearboxes, and frames. They use advanced information systems to track everything.
Yuanhua Depot’s construction was a significant undertaking. In November 2017, the first tunnel machine started work. It connected the depot to the main line. By March 2018, the first section of the tunnel was complete. Track-laying began in November 2018. The depot is essential to Chengdu’s modern transportation network.
Consider the scale of this operation. The depot covers approximately 639,333 square meters. That is a vast area dedicated to keeping Chengdu’s metro running smoothly. The railway track laying totals 17.38 kilometers. There are 19 turnouts guiding trains to different areas. The buildings themselves cover 92,300 square meters.
So, as you ride Line 9, remember Yuanhua Depot. It is where the trains are cared for. It ensures your journey is safe and efficient. Yuanhua Depot stands as a testament to Chengdu’s commitment to modern, reliable public transportation.
