Imagine, if you will, a small church nestled in the Italian countryside. This is the Chiesa di San Barbaziano Prete. It stands as a testament to centuries of faith.

The Chiesa di San Barbaziano Prete’s history stretches back to the 13th century. In 1261, it was taxed by the papacy. The church fell under the jurisdiction of the pieve of Mulazzano.

By 1472, a rector served the Chiesa di San Barbaziano Prete. In 1584, it officially became a parish church. This change came about during the reorganization of the Lodigiano’s ecclesiastical structure. This followed the Council of Trento.

In 1589, the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament was established. By 1619, the Chiesa di San Barbaziano Prete was part of the vicariate of Mulazzano. A rector still officiated. Besides the Blessed Sacrament confraternity, there was also the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. The parish had 426 souls. It included the oratories of Santa Maria and Saints Gervasio and Protasio.

The Chiesa di San Barbaziano Prete continued to serve its community. In 1690, it counted 467 souls. It remained within the vicariate of Mulazzano. By the late 18th century, the parish owned land. A count between 1779 and 1780 showed 411 souls.

In 1786, San Barbaziano was still in the vicariate of Mulazzano. The bishop appointed the archpriest. The number of souls was 380. By 1859, the parish had 431 souls. It included the oratories of Saints Gervasio and Protasio. Also, Santa Maria Maddalena.

In 1910, the Chiesa di San Barbaziano Prete counted 519 souls. It was still part of the vicariate of Mulazzano. The church was consecrated on June 18, 1948. Bishop Pietro Calchi Novati of Lodi performed the ceremony. By 1989, the parish was part of the vicariate of Paullo.

Today, the Chiesa di San Barbaziano Prete continues to be a place of worship. It is a place of historical and religious significance in the area. As you stand here, imagine the countless prayers and moments of reflection within its walls. The Chiesa di San Barbaziano Prete stands as a symbol of enduring faith and community.
