Can you imagine a church built on miracles? Right here, at South Bay Community Church, that’s exactly what happened. South Bay Community Church wasn’t always here. It began as a vision in the heart of Dave Jones back in 1980. He dreamed of a church in the South Bay area of San Diego County. The first service was held in a rented Masonic Lodge in Chula Vista as Gospel Light Tabernacle. It started small, just three families, around a dozen souls. Dave and his wife, Mary, prayed as they drove, their focus on the interchange of Highway 54 and Interstate 805. They asked God for a new home for their growing congregation, somewhere near that very spot. Miraculously, within a year, they moved to this location. The ministry was renamed Gospel Light Bible Church. Years passed, and the church thrived. They started a Christian school and soon outgrew their space. Below the church property sat eight acres of undeveloped land. They had no money, few hands to help, but a mountain of faith. Through a string of incredible events, miracles really, they acquired the land. A new facility was built in the fall of 1994. A few years later, in 1997, the church underwent another transformation. Its name changed to South Bay Community Church, reflecting its expanding role in the community. Eventually, Dave Jones retired, leaving a legacy of faith and perseverance. William and Maddi Frye stepped in to lead South Bay Community Church into its next chapter.
