Stepping back in time, imagine Chengdu during the reign of King Zhao of Qin. It’s 256 BC. Li Bing, the governor, commissions a bridge, Changxing Bridge, across the Jinjiang River. This bridge, in what is now Wuhe’s Wuhou District, becomes a vital artery, boosting trade and connecting the city’s southern reaches. Centuries later, this area, Wuhe, still resonates with the echoes of history. Wuhe, once part of Jinma Town, became absorbed into the larger Yunlong Town in December 2019. Yet, its identity remains intertwined with Wuhou District. Wuhe and Wuhou District share a rich tapestry woven with silk and brocade. Since the Han Dynasty, this region has been renowned for its textile craftsmanship. Within Wuhe’s Wuhou District lies Cuqiao, a historical starting point of the Southern Silk Road. Cuqiao, meaning “coarse bridge,” was once known as Cocoon Bridge, a testament to its role in the silk trade. Imagine merchants traversing this route, laden with precious silks, their journeys shaping the destiny of Wuhe and Chengdu. Wuhe’s Wuhou District cradles the iconic Wuhou Temple, a tribute to Zhuge Liang, the brilliant strategist of the Three Kingdoms era. Here, amidst ancient relics and grand halls, the spirit of Shu Han endures. Wuhe, through its connection to Wuhou District, offers a glimpse into Chengdu’s vibrant past, a place where the threads of history continue to intertwine with the present.
