Daily coaching uses the KATA method. “Gemeinsam am Johannisland” lets parents and the school jointly develop it. “Bewegte Woche” encourages walking to school instead of driving.
The Grundschule Am Johannisland is located in Hamburg’s south in Neugraben. It is a six-track open all-day primary school. It has 630 students and 100 educators. The school building is part of the BGZ in Neugraben. It lies near the Vogelkamp/Elbmosaik development area. In spring 2023, a Hamburger Klassenhaus was added to the school’s small forest.
The six-track Grundschule Am Johannisland is part of the BGZ in Neugraben. About 600 students learn within the open all-day primary school concept. Lessons take place until 1 PM. Afterward, there is time for breaks, lunch, and learning time. From 2:30 PM to 4 PM, children receive care in a course system or can play freely. The school partners with the HNT sports club.
Preschool classes work in a new building from 2023. It features six classes in an open marketplace concept. There is also a “bridge”. This serves as a contact point and for extracurricular care. A healthy breakfast, lunch, and snack are offered daily. During vacations, the Elbkinder-Kita Am Johannisland prepares lunch for the children.
The Grundschule Am Johannisland operates under the motto “Lernen, Lachen Hand in Hand”. It focuses on being an inclusive school. The Ganztagsschule Am Johannisland values diversity. All children learn from each other. This includes small, large, girls, boys, German-born, foreign-born, disabled, and non-disabled children. The school employs a small team of Elbkinder educators for all-day care. They work with a multiprofessional team. This team includes teachers, special educators, and social workers. Young people from the BFD/FSJ also participate.
Elbkinder is also a partner for the bookable holiday care. They also provide early care from 6 AM to 8 AM and late care from 4 PM to 6 PM.
The Ganztagsschule Am Johannisland offers lessons from Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 1 PM. All students receive a free breakfast from 7 AM. This is thanks to BrotZeit e.V. Rebional provides lunch between 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM. Learning time for grades 1 and 2 is from 1:45 PM to 2:30 PM. Learning time for grades 3 and 4 is from 1 PM to 1:45 PM. Afternoon courses and free play are from 2:30 PM to 4 PM. These are free for grades 1-4.
Registration for afternoon care requires a minimum of three afternoons per week. Parents can choose pickup times at 2:30 PM or 4 PM via the school office. Early care is from 6 AM to 8 AM for a fee. Late care is from 4 PM to 6 PM for a fee. Holiday care is also available for a fee.
