In 1983 Pujiang County became part of Chengdu. Before that its history stretched back centuries. Picture this bustling county nestled in the Sichuan Basin.

Pujiang County boasts a rich history. Its origins trace back to the 4th century BC when the Qin Kingdom conquered Shu. Puyang County was established then in the Pushui area. During the Han dynasty it was absorbed into Linyi County. In 554 AD it was reborn as Guangding County. The name Pujiang emerged in 601 AD. Its location shifted over time. The Hongwu Emperor relocated it to its current site near Heshan Town. This town was under Qiongzhou then Meishan finally Wenjiang before its incorporation into Chengdu.

Pujiang’s geographic location is key. It’s positioned in the southwest part of the Sichuan Basin. Its coordinates are precisely 30°11′56″N 103°30′32″E. The county stretches 37 kilometers east to west 27.5 kilometers north to south. It’s bordered by Pengshan and Meishan to the east Mingshan to the west Danlin to the south and Qionglai City to the north.

Modern Pujiang is a hub of activity. The Pujiang Centralized Area for Industrial Development is near the Chengdu-Ya’an Highway. It’s just 68 kilometers from Chengdu. It’s the only state-level agricultural by-product processing center in Chengdu. This area covers about 6 square kilometers. The development focus includes food biology medicine light industry manufacturing and high-tech ventures.

Pujiang’s climate plays a significant role in its agricultural output. The average annual temperature is a comfortable 16.5°C. Rainfall is plentiful ensuring a flourishing environment for crops like the renowned Pujiang tofu skin.
