In 1998 Reverend Yuri Solomon felt God’s calling. He wanted to establish New Life Baptist Church. This wasn’t just another church. It was a vision. A dream fueled by faith. The first worship service took place in the home of Sister Arletha Mackey. Only a few were present. Pastor Yuri Solomon Katrina Solomon Arletha Mackey and LaTonya Mackey. Despite humble beginnings New Life Baptist Church grew.
By December 1998 they leased their first worship facility at 8410 Brandon Lane. They stayed there for a year and a half. Then in June 2000 they returned to home worship. They needed to save money. They wanted to buy their own building. They continued worshipping in the Solomon’s home.
In March 2001 a miracle happened. They could finally buy their current building. It’s at 4714 Wilmington Street. This wasn’t just a building. It was a testament to their unwavering faith. It showed their resilience and their devotion to their community.
In 2014 New Life Baptist Church celebrated a significant milestone. They paid off their first church note. Simultaneously they bought two adjacent lots. This expansion showcased their growth. It reflected their commitment to serving a growing congregation. The church faced many challenges. Pastor Solomon always said Christians don’t have problems. They have uncomfortable situations. These difficulties strengthened the church.
Many ministries flourished. There’s Men of God Women of Faith Soldiers for Christ Youth. The Hospitality Team and Program Committee serve as well. The Usher Board WordTalk Radio Ministry Pastor Aide and choirs also play vital roles. There’s even a Life Bible Institute. The church’s vision is Teaching People to Reach People. Their mission is to reach grow send and seek. Their motto Proclaiming the Heavenly Hope highlights their core belief. The Gospel of Christ is central to their teachings. Their history is short. It’s just the beginning. They have a great work ahead. They know with Christ all things are possible. New Life Baptist Church stands as a beacon of faith. It’s a symbol of hope in the heart of Houston. It’s a place where lives are transformed. Where faith is nurtured. Where community thrives.
