Considering a place of pure calm? The Buddhistisches Zentrum Berlin offers exactly that. It is a serene escape into far-eastern spirituality right here in Berlin.

The Buddhistisches Zentrum Berlin is a vital hub. It serves as a center for Buddhist practice and teachings. You are all warmly welcomed here to explore its tranquil atmosphere.

Paul Dahlke, a Berlin physician and writer, founded a Buddhist community. Between 1922 and 1924, he built the Buddhistisches Haus for them. It stands on the highest point in Frohnau.

Entering through the Elephant Gate is the start of a special experience. You will see 73 steps leading upwards. These symbolize Buddha’s eightfold path. This path is believed to lead to enlightenment. Each of the eight steps represents a different aspect of this path.

At the top, you will discover the main building. It includes a residential house with a large library. Also there is a temple and a charming garden. The library and temple are open daily. They welcome visitors from 10 AM to 6 PM.

The Buddhistisches Zentrum Berlin provides regular meditation courses. Guided tours and lectures also take place here. Entry is free. The peace within the temple is wonderfully refreshing.

The Buddhistisches Zentrum Berlin encourages understanding. Dahlke’s motto is a guide: “What we do, everyone should see. What we say, everyone should hear. What we think, everyone should know.” This reflects the center’s commitment to openness and transparency.

Many people find the center’s history intriguing. In 1957, the German Dharmaduta Society acquired the property. Asoka Weeraratna founded this society. He transformed the house into a Buddhist Vihara. Monks from Sri Lanka and other countries then resided here.

Today, the Buddhistisches Zentrum Berlin remains a place of reflection. It is also a monument to cultural exchange. Its beautiful architecture and peaceful gardens provide a unique experience. A stone sculpture of Guanyin stands in the garden. The city of Nagoya, Japan donated it in 1959.

The Buddhistisches Zentrum Berlin also faced challenges. In 2009, the German Buddhist Union excluded the house. This was due to irregularities in its management. Despite this, it continues to be a tourist attraction. It also serves as a memorial.

Visiting the Buddhistisches Zentrum Berlin offers more than just sightseeing. It offers a chance to connect with Buddhist principles. It is a place for inner peace. The center invites you to explore your own spiritual path.
