Tremsbüttel a small village in Stormarn Schleswig-Holstein has a rich history. It first appeared in records in 1302 as Tremetesbotle. Johannes de Tremetesbotle a member of the noble von Wedel family owned the castle and estate. The remains of his water castle are still here a cultural monument.
The village of Tremsbüttel wasn’t always what it is today. It served as the administrative center of a Vogtei later a Gottorf office until 1802. After that a single official managed it along with Reinbek and Trittau. Tremsbüttel kept the office of the clerk until 1858. Then Bargteheide took over.
The Sattenfelde district a part of Tremsbüttel has a fascinating story. It grew around a small plot of land just 42 tons. After the Hamburg-Lübeck railway was built in 1865 and a nearby station opened around 1893 tourism began to grow. More building plots became available starting in 1959. This led to significant population growth.
In 1894 Alfred Hasenclever owner of the remaining estate built Schloss Tremsbüttel. It is an impressive example of historicism architecture. The area around the manor house was settled between 1955 and 1956. Land was given to farmers from the East. The neighboring community of Vorburg joined Tremsbüttel in 1928. They even had a shared fire department since 1890. Their joint school which existed since the early 18th century closed in 1973.
Tremsbüttel boasts an impressive coat of arms. It is divided. The top is blue with three golden ears of grain. The bottom is silver with a red brick bridge running across.
Today Tremsbüttel is easily accessible via the A21 motorway. The K12 county road runs through the southern part and the K61 through the north. The Kupfermühle train station is in Sattenfelde. This station is on the Lübeck-Hamburg line.
Tremsbüttel gave the world important figures. Georg Green a Lutheran theologian poet and historian lived here. Gottfried von Wedderkop was a diplomat in Danish service and a councilor. Christian Ernst zu Stolberg-Stolberg an Austrian Field Marshal Lieutenant was also from here.
