Imagine solar trees blooming in the desert. These aren’t mirages. They’re part of the sustainable design of Las Vegas City Hall.

Las Vegas City Hall stands as the center of municipal government for the City of Las Vegas. It is found downtown on Main Street. This building replaced the old City Hall in 2012. The former building had served the city since 1973.

Forest City Enterprises constructed this highly sustainable building. It boasts environmentally friendly features. Thirty-three energy-producing solar trees stand in the south plaza. Rooftop solar panels also cut energy costs. The solar trees generate about 7% of the building’s annual energy use.

The exterior showcases natural textured masonry. Inside, the lobby impresses with a glass artistic feature. Light-colored stone and high metal ceilings add to the grandeur.

Las Vegas City Hall achieved LEED Gold certification. It also won the Public Works Project of the Year award from the American Public Works Association.

The building spans 310,000 square feet and seven stories. It sits on a 2.8-acre site in downtown Las Vegas. Inside, you will find office spaces and council chambers. A grand lobby welcomes visitors. There is even a television studio. Underground parking provides convenience.

The city of Las Vegas uses a council-manager government. The mayor is a council member-at-large. The mayor presides over City Council meetings. If the mayor is absent, the Mayor Pro-Tem takes over. The City Manager handles daily operations and municipal services. The City Manager also maintains relationships with other governments.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department serves both the city and Clark County. It formed in 1973. It was a merger of the Las Vegas Police Department and the Clark County Sheriff’s Department.

Las Vegas is also home to the Lloyd D. George Federal District Courthouse. It also has the Regional Justice Center. This attracts many companies offering legal services. These services include bail, marriage, divorce, and tax assistance.

The Las Vegas City Hall stands as a testament to sustainable design. It also represents efficient governance. It is a place where the city’s business happens every day. As you leave, remember the solar trees. Think of the commitment to a greener future. That’s Las Vegas looking ahead.
