In fact, its population hovers around a thousand people. Imagine the close-knit community that thrives here. Saracalar Mahallesi wasn’t always a neighborhood though. It first emerged as a settlement in the early 1900s when the Zülfikaroğulları family migrated here from Eskişehir. Their roots were in the Sarıcakaya region, and their presence eventually lent its name, in a slightly modified form, to this very place. For many years, Saracalar Mahallesi existed as a village. Then, in 2004, a new chapter unfolded. A law enacted that year redrew the boundaries of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, encompassing all settlements within a 50-kilometer radius. This brought Saracalar Mahallesi under the umbrella of Akyurt, transforming it from a village into a neighborhood. Life in Saracalar Mahallesi moves at a different pace than the bustling heart of Ankara, which lies 55 kilometers away. But that’s part of its charm. It’s a place where traditions run deep and neighbors greet each other by name.
