The Sachsendammsteg’s width varies too. It ranges from 6.4 to 18.23 meters. The usable width is at least 4 meters. This provides ample space for pedestrians.
Sachsendamm itself stretches about 1700 meters. It forms a vital link in Schöneberg. Sachsendamm extends Dominicusstraße. It runs to the Tempelhof border. At Alboinstraße, it becomes Schöneberger Straße. Part of its route follows the old Marienfelder Weg.
The street’s name, Sachsendamm, has an interesting origin. It was named on March 27, 1907. The name honors the Saxon tribe. They were a West Germanic people.
Sachsendamm defines Schöneberg’s southern edge. It marks the “Schöneberg lens.” The Ringbahn borders this area to the north. The area features commercial buildings.
