He pursued higher education. Ampem obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Geography. He studied at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. In 2010, he got an MSC in Finance from Virginia Commonwealth University in the USA.

Thomas Nyarko Ampem’s career is diverse. He lectured at Accra Institute of Technology and Concord Business College. He taught Finance and Business Management. He offered support to his students. From 2012 to 2013, Ampem worked as a Director of Finance. He worked for the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation Secretariat. It was part of the Office of the President. He managed the committee’s finances. He ensured accurate financial reporting.

In politics, Ampem has been a Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman Constituency since January 2017. He represents his constituents’ interests in Parliament. He contributes to proposing and debating laws. He was the Chairman of the Budget Committee. He oversaw government spending. He also served on the Finance Committee.

From 2013 to 2017, Ampem was the District Chief Executive of Asuogyaman. He represented the President in the District. He chaired the District Security Council and Executive Committee. He oversaw the performance of the Assembly.
