Can you hear the whispers of the old millstones? Here at Cascina Molini Asciutti, those whispers tell tales of flour dust and flowing water. Cascina Molini Asciutti stands as a testament to Monza’s agricultural heritage. Designed by Giacomo Tazzini in 1833, it replaced a 17th-century mill. The roggia Mulini Asciutti, a canal derived from the Lambro River, cuts through the Cascina Molini Asciutti complex. This design powers the mill and creates a striking symmetry. The mill building itself consists of two parallel wings. These wings house the millstone rooms, each containing three stone grinders. Two additional buildings, once used as a barn and stable, mirror this symmetry. They flank the central canal. These buildings are notable for their large masonry arches. Just north, past the overflow channel, sits a small,edicule-shaped structure that once served as an oven. Since 2010, Cascina Molini Asciutti has housed an Environmental Education and Sustainability Center. It’s managed by CREDA Onlus. Today, Cascina Molini Asciutti offers a range of educational programs. They focus on environmental awareness and sustainability. These programs cater to various age groups, from preschoolers to secondary school students. Activities range from exploring the world of bees and the secrets of soil to baking traditional bread and biscuits. They even delve into the art of storytelling and the science behind marble runs. Here at Cascina Molini Asciutti, history, nature, and education intertwine to create a truly unique experience. The whispers of the old millstones have evolved.
