Mysteriously gleaming under the Madrid sky, My Skyhole – Madrid Sculpture invites contemplation. The My Skyhole – Madrid Sculpture isn’t just a shiny steel half-sphere. It’s part of a larger series by Japanese sculptor Bukichi Inoue. Created in 1991, My Skyhole – Madrid Sculpture found its home in Juan Carlos I Park as part of the “Encounters in Madrid” International Open-Air Sculpture Symposium. This symposium was a key event during Madrid’s celebration as the European Capital of Culture in 1992. Eleven internationally renowned artists were commissioned to create large-scale sculptures for the park.

My Skyhole – Madrid Sculpture is strategically positioned atop the park’s highest point, Pyramid V. A long ramp leads up to the sculpture, adding a sense of anticipation to the experience. The sculpture is nestled within a 16×16 meter square enclosure paved with granite cobblestones and stone slabs. Four cypress trees stand guard around My Skyhole – Madrid Sculpture, aligned with the cardinal directions. They emphasize the verticality of the piece and its connection to the infinite. The polished surface of My Skyhole – Madrid Sculpture reflects the ever-changing Madrid sky. This reflection creates a sense of connection between earth and sky, human and divine.

My Skyhole – Madrid Sculpture is number 14 on the Sculpture Path, an art walk through the park. This path showcases a variety of sculptures. It connects art and nature. The My Skyhole – Madrid Sculpture invites quiet reflection. The simple form and reflective surface encourage contemplation of the vastness of the sky and our place within the universe. The sculpture is a quiet sanctuary amidst the bustling city. The gleaming surface of My Skyhole – Madrid Sculpture offers a moment of peace and connection with something larger than ourselves.
