They provided water for drinking, washing, and irrigation. Over time, as Salt Lake City grew, these creeks were buried underground. This process is known as culverting. The Seven Canyons Trust, inspired by a group of University of Utah students, is working to “daylight” these hidden waterways. Daylighting involves bringing the creeks back to the surface. This restoration has many benefits. It improves water and air quality. It creates natural habitats for wildlife. It also offers opportunities for recreation.
