Isn’t it great to see the Cầu Lê Văn Sỹ. This bridge spans the Nhiêu Lộc–Thị Nghè canal. It links Trần Quốc Thảo and Lê Văn Sỹ streets in District 3.

Let’s delve into the Cầu Lê Văn Sỹ’s past. The French administration built this bridge around 1940. It was part of the Eyriaud des Vergnes road project.

During the Republic of Vietnam era, Eyriaud des Vergnes Road became Trương Minh Giảng Road. The bridge was then known as Trương Minh Giảng Bridge. In 1975, the Southern Republic of Vietnam merged Trương Minh Giảng and Trương Minh Ký roads into Nguyễn Văn Trỗi Road. Consequently, the bridge was renamed Nguyễn Văn Trỗi Bridge.

In 1985, the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City divided Nguyễn Văn Trỗi Road. The section from the Nhiêu Lộc–Thị Nghè canal to Lăng Cha Cả was named Lê Văn Sỹ. The remaining section toward the city center became Trần Quốc Thảo. Since then, it has been known as Cầu Lê Văn Sỹ.

The Cầu Lê Văn Sỹ you see today is not the original. In November 2013, the bridge was dismantled and rebuilt. The construction finished and reopened to traffic on April 30, 2014. The rebuilt Cầu Lê Văn Sỹ is 60 meters long and nearly 19 meters wide.

Imagine traffic flowing smoothly over the Cầu Lê Văn Sỹ. Consider its role in connecting different parts of the city. Think about the changes this bridge has seen over the decades. The Cầu Lê Văn Sỹ stands as a testament to Saigon’s evolving history.
