This unassuming plaque tells a tale of incredible bravery. It commemorates Jean Franklemon a resistance fighter. He was part of a daring act during World War II. Jean Franklemon along with Youra Livchitz and Robert Maistriau stopped the twentieth train convoy. This train was headed to the Auschwitz extermination camp. Their courageous intervention saved dozens of Jewish people from certain death.

The Jean Franklemon Plaque stands as a testament to their heroism. The three men risked their lives. They acted on April 19 1943 near Boortmeerbeek. Armed with only a pistol and a red lantern they managed to halt the train. They helped 231 deportees escape. Many of those who escaped were children.

While some escapees were later recaptured or killed Jean Franklemon survived the war. He was arrested on August 4 1943. He was imprisoned in Fort Breendonk and later deported to concentration camps in Germany. He was eventually liberated on May 3 1945. Jean Franklemon passed away in 1977. His life is a powerful reminder of resistance against Nazi barbarism. The plaque serves as a place of remembrance. It honors not only Jean Franklemon but also the countless others who fought against oppression. Their bravery should never be forgotten. This plaque ensures their actions continue to inspire generations to come. The Jean Franklemon plaque reminds us that even in the darkest of times hope and resistance can prevail. The Jean Franklemon Plaque is a symbol of resilience. It is a place where we can reflect on the sacrifices made for freedom.
