Tumasek is more than just a name on a map. It’s a link to a time when Brunei, once a part of the Sumatran Buddhist Srivijaya Empire, fell under the sway of the Hindu Majapahit Empire in Java. The introduction of Islam to Brunei is believed to be linked to the Sultanate of Tumasek, a name that echoes an ancient past and connections to Singapore. This historical connection adds another layer of intrigue to this quiet area. Within Tumasek, you’ll find everyday conveniences like a Brunei Shell Petroleum station on Jalan Tutong.
