For over four decades Reverend David Buggs served as its pastor. He wasn’t just a spiritual leader. He was a cornerstone of the Carson community. He ministered to thousands. He fed the hungry clothed the stranger and comforted grieving families. His dedication was remarkable especially considering he held a full-time job as a nuclear weapons specialist at the Seal Beach Naval Weapon Station. He truly embodied the church’s motto Winning People to Christ Loving People in Christ Building Disciples for Christ.
Central Baptist Church wasn’t always located in Carson. In 1972 Reverend Buggs’ pastoral ministry began. Three years later his church merged with another Central Baptist Church. This merger marked a significant point in the church’s journey. It brought together different congregations under one roof. This united community became larger than 1600 members. After retiring from the Naval Station Reverend Buggs devoted more time to Central Baptist Church. He even served as a Civilian Volunteer Clergyman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
His legacy extends beyond the walls of Central Baptist Church. He touched countless lives. He left an imprint on Carson. His ministry was a testament to his unwavering faith.
