Schule Surenland’s story began in 1954. The surrounding Gartenstadt Farmsen settlement needed a school. It started as a Volksschule. This is a combined elementary and secondary school. Expansions followed in 1960. The school added an assembly hall and teaching pool in 1964. Paul Seitz, head of the Hamburg building authority, designed these typical serial buildings.
Initially, Schule Surenland was a Grund- und Hauptschule. A Realschulzug was added in 1968. In 1992, it became an Integrated Main and Realschule. This changed the strict division after the 6th grade. By 2009, it transformed into a pure primary school.
The school emphasizes inclusion. For over 20 years, children with and without special needs learn together. The team includes teachers, educators, and special education experts. They offer individual support. Schule Surenland provides special programs. These include art, sports, research, and movement promotion. Streitschlichter helps resolve conflicts. In 2014 and 2015, the assembly hall was renovated for 1.5 million EUR. This renovation improved accessibility. The Kreuzbau underwent energy-efficient renovations in 2011.
The Schulverein der Schule Surenland e.V. actively supports the school. They even collect donations for a new go-kart. Every class uses vehicles like scooters and go-karts during breaks. The go-kart is the most popular.
