Dream of roaring crowds. South Pine Sports Complex stands as a testament to community spirit and sporting excellence. This is the South Pine Sporting Complex in Brendale. Opened in 2016, this multi-purpose facility quickly became a hub for various sports.

South Pine Sports Complex occupies a sprawling 74-hectare site. Moreton Bay Regional Council owns this significant regional sports facility. The council identified the need for expanded indoor facilities due to increasing user demand.

Imagine the energy here on February 18, 2017. The Brisbane Lions faced Collingwood in the AFL Women’s league. A record crowd of 5,500 people packed the main AFL field. The South Pine Sports Complex became the primary home for the Brisbane Lions AFLW team in 2017 and 2018.

No AFLW games were scheduled here in 2019. Most games moved to Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex that season. However, the Lions’ reserves team still used the South Pine Sports Complex for NEAFL and VFL matches. The NEAFL Premiership defence began on Good Friday.

The South Pine Sports Complex isn’t just about Australian Rules Football. The complex includes fields for cricket. It also has fields for rugby league and union. Soccer and hockey are also played here.

Beyond the sporting fields, there is a five-court indoor sports facility. PDT Architects collaborated with the Moreton Bay Regional Council for over five years on this project. The center hosts regional and state competitions. Sports include basketball, netball, volleyball, badminton and futsal.

The rugby union and touch football clubhouse has been rebuilt. This provides excellent viewing opportunities. The South Pine Sports Complex is one of the first in the region with dedicated change facilities for para-athletes. It also boasts a fully certified changing place facility. This ensures that indoor sport can be enjoyed across a range of abilities.

Surface Squared provided Stratificato for the change rooms. This enhanced privacy and reduced costs. The sheet size was optimized to minimize waste.

The South Pine Sports Complex also hosts the Queensland Murri Carnival. In 2024, it was the venue for the Wheelchair State Challenge. The NSW went down in a wheelchair thriller.

Today, the South Pine Sports Complex continues to evolve. It fosters a love of sport and community engagement.
