Cyprus High School opened its doors in April 1918. It stands as a pillar of education in Magna. The school’s mascot is the Cyprus Pirate. Students proudly display their royal blue and gold colors.
Let’s dive into the story of this school. The original main building faced challenges with age. It was completely rebuilt in 1983. A significant addition occurred in 2016. Brockbank Jr. High became part of the extended Cyprus High campus. This expansion accommodated the growing student body.
Currently, a new Cyprus High School campus is under construction. It’s located at 8575 W Cordero Dr in Magna. The new campus will open in the fall of 2025. It will replace the current building.
Cyprus High belongs to the Granite School District. Ben Horsley is the Superintendent. Josh LeRoy is the current principal as of 2024. He guides the school with passion.
Cyprus High serves students in grades 9 through 12. Enrollment is around 2,709 students. The student-to-teacher ratio is about 26 to 1.
The diversity at Cyprus High is noteworthy. As of 2020-2021, the student body was 49.2% White. 41.8% were Hispanic. 2.2% were African American. 3.0% were Pacific Islander. 1.7% were Asian. 1.3% were Native American.
Cyprus High School has produced some notable alumni. Norm Bangerter is a former Utah governor. Scott Eyre and Willie Eyre played Major League Baseball. Pete Harman co-founded KFC. SheDaisy is a country music group. John A. Pearce serves as a Utah Supreme Court justice. William Grant Bangerter was an Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
