VfV 87 Hainholz’s story is one of fusion and achievement. It started with the merger of two traditional Hainholz clubs in 1995. These clubs were the Turn- und Sportverein and the Verein für Volkssport. The Turn- und Sportverein was founded on March 25, 1887. The Verein für Volkssport was founded on April 9, 1910.
The 1930s saw the rise of Hainholz athletes. Turnerin Trudi Meyer won Olympic gold in 1936. In 1938 and 1939, the club brought home the German Rugby Championship. Five players even became rugby national players.
The year 1960 was a handball highlight. As newcomers in the Nds Oberliga, they finished second. This secured their place in the North German Championship.
The 1970s were also successful. The grand event “2000 Handballer in Hainholz” took place in 1978. The first men’s football team achieved the double. They secured both the Kreismeisterschaft and Kreispokal in the same year.
After the fusion, VfV 87 Hainholz continued to thrive. The men’s football team climbed from the 3rd Kreisklasse to the Kreisliga. In 1998, they won the Pokal der 3. Kreisklasse.
The youth football division also saw progress. Teams achieved staff championships and hall district championships. This success spanned G-, F- and E-youth teams.
Handball also experienced great moments. The men’s team ascended to the Bezirksoberliga. The women’s team reached the Kreisliga.
VfV 87 Hainholz earned recognition for its youth work. In 2001, the DFB awarded the club the Sepp-Herberger-Stiftung. That same year, the football youth division hosted the largest youth tournament in the city.
Since 1999, women’s football has been part of the club. In the 2001/2002 season, the team was undefeated champion in the Kreisliga. They advanced to the Bezirksklasse and won their first hall district championship.
