A separate belfry and chapel add to its unique charm. Inside, thought-provoking stained glass windows cast colorful patterns across the renovated nave. Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church isn’t just a beautiful building. It’s a vibrant parish. Over 40 active lay ministries serve the community. The church hosts a variety of events, welcoming newcomers and long-time parishioners alike. The church also houses a school. For those seeking quiet reflection, the Adoration Chapel offers a sanctuary for prayer around the clock. In 2018, Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church underwent a significant restoration. This ensured its continued presence as a spiritual and architectural landmark in Metairie. The original Kilgen organ, a two-manual instrument from 1956, was relocated to the front of the building during the renovation. Now enhanced with a Peterson relay, it fills the church with rich, resonant music. The church’s namesake, Saint Catherine of Siena, lived a life dedicated to prayer and service. She urged Pope Gregory XI to return to Rome from Avignon. Her deep love for the Church led her to advocate for internal reform and peace among nations. In 1970, Pope Paul VI declared her a Doctor of the Church. This honor recognized the profound wisdom of her teachings.
