Wasn’t it amazing how faith can build a community? Glendale Missionary Baptist Church stands as a testament to that. This very spot vibrates with a history spanning decades. It’s a story of unwavering faith resilience and growth.

Glendale Missionary Baptist Church began on April 28 1963. It started humbly in the home of Reverend Dr. James A and Rutha M Harrington. Twenty charter members gathered in their Richmond Heights home. The church’s name came from a book “The Pull of The People”. Dr Harrington loved the story of a church in the book that began in a living room just like theirs. The members agreed. Glendale Mission was born. It later became Glendale Missionary Baptist Church Inc after being incorporated in Florida.

Early services included Sunday School Training Union mission activities and music. These events were held in members’ homes until the church moved to a vacated post office building in Richmond Heights. The church continued to grow. It moved again to Frank C Martin Elementary School in 1965. Their growth prompted the purchase of three acres of land. In 1971 a new sanctuary was built.

In 1969 Glendale Missionary Baptist Church affiliated with the Florida Baptist Convention. They were the first all-black congregation to join since 1854. This was a significant landmark in their history. This also marked the start of a new chapter. The church expanded their ministry over the years. They even established a preschool academy.

Tragedy struck in 1992. Hurricane Andrew destroyed the sanctuary. The community rallied. They rebuilt the sanctuary. They completed it in 1995. Glendale Missionary Baptist Church continued to thrive. The church experienced several periods of growth under different pastors. They paid off their mortgage and sent mission teams across the globe. They focused on spreading the Gospel. They also hosted various community events and conferences.

Glendale Missionary Baptist Church isn’t just a building. It’s a beacon of hope and faith. It’s a testament to the enduring power of community and spiritual growth. It’s a story that continues to unfold. It’s a story written in faith and resilience.
