Do you hear whispers of the past? They echo around us here at Villa Pelucca. This grand villa, nestled in Sesto San Giovanni just outside Milan, has seen centuries pass. Its story intertwines with noble families, renowned artists, and even acts of remarkable generosity.

Villa Pelucca’s journey starts in the 12th century as a property owned by the Pelucchi family. Imagine a simpler time, with sprawling fields and this elegant villa at its heart. In the 15th century, it underwent a transformation, becoming a true symbol of the Italian Renaissance.

The Rabia family, new owners of the estate, commissioned a true master to adorn their home. Around 1520, Bernardino Luini, a celebrated painter of the Lombard school, graced the villa walls with his frescoes. Sadly, these masterpieces are no longer in their original location. You can, however, admire some of them at the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan. They offer a glimpse into the villa’s opulent past.

Centuries later, Villa Pelucca was reborn thanks to a gesture of profound kindness. In the early 1900s, industrialist Giovanni De Ponti vowed to establish a shelter for the elderly in Sesto San Giovanni if he recovered from surgery. Fate smiled upon him. True to his word, he donated a significant sum to the cause.

In 1925, Villa Pelucca, then owned by Achille Puricelli Guerra, was chosen as the ideal location. After extensive renovations and a city-wide fundraising effort, Villa Pelucca opened its doors in 1927 as the “Vittorio Emanuele III Rest Home for the elderly poor of Sesto San Giovanni.”

Today, Villa Pelucca stands as a testament to the enduring power of art, compassion, and history. Its story, woven into the very fabric of the building, serves as a reminder that even amidst the bustling city, echoes of the past resonate strongly.
