But North Decatur United Methodist Church is more than just Sunday services. The School At North Decatur UMC SAND is a vibrant ministry. It embodies the church’s commitment to community. SAND began with Elizabeth Thompson. In the late 1950s she bridged the gap between preschools and elementary schools.
Over time North Decatur UMC responded to the community’s needs. They opened a Parents Morning Out program. Later they created the nationally recognized Art With Heart program. Today SAND is recognized as a School of Excellence. The NGUMC honors it. This outdoor urban preschool serves families with children ages 1 through Pre-K. It uses a Reggio Emilia inspired program.
The pastor of North Decatur UMC Rev. Nanci Hicks welcomes you. She sees SAND as a creative nurturing community. The preschool staff creates a safe environment for children to thrive.
