Craftspeople of Hanover know MEGA eG. It is more than just a supplier. It is a partner. MEGA eG has a rich history. Its roots go back to 1901. Independent craftsmen in Altona founded an purchasing association. They sought to gain advantages through a cooperative material procurement.

Back then, over 170 master painters resided in Altona alone. Many craftsmen flocked to the city with cheap offers. The purchasing association became a necessary step.

In 1918, it took the form of a cooperative. It became MEGA Malereinkaufsgenossenschaft e.G. The cooperative persevered through World War II. In 1954, the first location opened in Heide. Over time, MEGA merged with cooperatives in Bremen, Lüneburg, and Harburg.

MEGA eG expanded to Hanover in 1982. After German reunification in 1990, MEGA established locations in the new federal states. More mergers followed including Maler-Einkauf e.G. Kiel in 1992 and miframa eG, Nuremberg in 1993. This expansion extended MEGA’s reach to southern Germany with locations in Bavaria and Saxony.

In 1994, MEGA acquired MKB Mittelstandskreditbank AG. In 1996, the HABO Group, a flooring wholesaler, joined MEGA. The company continued to grow through mergers and acquisitions. These included FARB UNION Bielefeld in 2000 and MEK Karlsruhe eG in 2003. In 2006, MEGA acquired the ORTH Group, another flooring wholesaler. In 2008, SKV GmbH Marburg and EGISTUCK Einkaufsgenossenschaft der Stukkateurmeister eG merged with MEGA.

In 2010, MEGA Malereinkaufsgenossenschaft e.G. became MEGA eG. MEGA began cooperating with Murschhauser GmbH, a paint wholesaler, in 2009. The cooperation with RAFA GmbH began in 2012. The branch in Hanover, with a central warehouse for the entire MEGA Group, was rebuilt in 2021. HACOTEX BOTEX GmbH merged with MEGA eG in 2013.

MEGA eG took over six locations from Louis Gnatz GmbH in 2015. In the same year, a cooperation started with Robert Schmid GmbH & Co. KG. In 2018, MEGA began cooperating with Sonnen Herzog GmbH & Co. KG. The activities of MALEG Einkaufsgenossenschaft der Maler zu Lübeck eG transferred to MEGA eG in the same year.

MEGA eG acquired Robert Schmid GmbH & Co. KG in 2023. In the same year, MEGA eG opened its first MEGA24 location in Pinneberg. Here, MEGA members can shop via self-service outside opening hours. MEGA opened new locations in Freiberg am Neckar and in the premises of Farben Heim GmbH & Co. KG in Stuttgart in 2024. A merger with MEG Rhein-Ruhr followed.

Today, MEGA eG is a large wholesale company. It serves commercial customers in the fields of renovation and modernisation. The company has over 140 locations. MEGA offers a full range of products. This includes paints, flooring, tools, and services. These cater to painters, floorers and plasterers. MEGA serves only trade customers.

MEGA’s success is due to its commitment. It focuses on the needs of its customers. It offers quality products and services. Fachhandwerker find quality products of the MEGA brands and well-known industry partners. MEGA also operates the MEGA Akademie. It provides training and education for craftsmen and employees.
