Sculpted ants march relentlessly. They crawl across the Die Ameisen Sculpture. This bronze and granite artwork brings a poem to life. The poem is by Joachim Ringelnatz. The Die Ameisen Sculpture was commissioned by the Alfred Toepfer Stiftung F. V. S. Created in 2014 by Peter Schröder, it initially stood at the intersection of Elbchaussee and Liebermannstraße. In 2023, the ants found a new home. They relocated slightly further down Elbchaussee to number 195a. The sculpture captures the whimsical nature of Ringelnatz’s poem. The ants seem to be engaged in some serious, yet absurd activity. This reflects the poem’s themes.
