Officially incorporated in July 1895, Brookdale Baptist Church wasn’t always the edifice you see today. The Adventure Day Camp, a program designed for grade school children, aimed to blend biblical teachings with the joys of summer. The camp’s handbook explicitly stated its goal: “The ultimate goal of Adventure Day Camp is the integration of Bible truth into the lives of campers.” Activities were carefully crafted to intertwine formal and informal teaching methods. Formal instruction involved sharing God’s word. Informal learning took place through everyday interactions, modeling biblical principles in the context of crafts, games, and outdoor adventures. While the camp welcomed children from all backgrounds, the underlying purpose remained rooted in the church’s religious mission. The camp was designed to be more than just a summer pastime.
