The Moi International Airport, a vital hub in Mombasa, Kenya, has witnessed more than its fair share of dramatic events since its inception during World War II. Originally known as Port Reitz Airport, it served as a key base for the South African Army Engineer Corps, the Fleet Air Arm, the Royal Air Force, and the South African Air Force during the war against Italy in Abyssinia. Moi International Airport wasn’t always the international gateway it is today. In 1979, the airport underwent a significant expansion, transforming it into a vital link connecting Mombasa to the world. This expansion marked a pivotal moment in the airport’s history, paving the way for increased tourism and trade in the region. Moi International Airport’s strategic location also played a crucial role in Operation Provide Relief and Operation Support Hope.
