Ever tasted a port wine born from a family legacy spanning over two centuries? Welcome to Churchill’s Port. Right before you stands a testament to a rich history and unwavering dedication to crafting exceptional port wines.

Churchill’s Port isn’t just a name it’s a story. It started in 1981. John Graham a member of the renowned Graham’s Port family founded the company. He named it after his wife Caroline Churchill. This was a bold move. His family had sold their own port business years prior. He had to forge his own path. He started by working for another prestigious port house Cockburn’s. He even rented their lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia where port is traditionally stored.

The pursuit of excellence drove John Graham. Sourcing the best grapes was crucial. After the death of their longtime winemaker Borges de Sousa finding top-quality grapes became a challenge. This led Churchill’s Port to a significant decision. They purchased their own vineyards. They didn’t stick to the traditional north bank of the Douro River. Instead they acquired Quinta da Gricha a 100-hectare estate on the south bank. They later added the 12-hectare Quinto do Rio vineyard. These vineyards contribute to the unique character of Churchill’s Ports.

Churchill’s Port is known for its small-batch production. Their wines are distinctive and targeted towards the British market. They use traditional methods. They tread the grapes by foot a time-honored practice. This prevents bitterness from broken pips. They also rely on natural fermentation using minimal brandy. This all contributes to their high-quality reputation.

Eleven vintages have been declared since the company’s first in 1982. Churchill’s offers a variety of ports. They produce vintage-dated ports late bottled vintage ports tawny ports and even white port. The Churchill’s Estates line includes 10 and 20-year-old tawny ports. These are highly sought after by connoisseurs.

Churchill’s Port is more than just a producer. It’s a legacy a testament to passion. It’s a story woven into every bottle. A story you can now taste. Now raise a glass to the spirit of Churchill’s Port. Cheers.
