The Worthington Missionary Baptist Church stands tall on Bostic Street, a beacon of faith for the community of North Houston. Founded in 1968, its story is woven into the fabric of this vibrant neighborhood. The church was born out of a divine calling, a powerful moment when Pastor Lawrence Deason felt the Holy Spirit urging him to search for a place of worship. The spirit led him to Worthington Street, where an empty house caught his eye. The owner was eager to sell, believing this house had a sacred purpose.

The church’s humble beginnings saw a collection of 30 names, individuals who were drawn to the promise of a spiritual home. The first service took place at the Northside Missionary Baptist Church, where 35 souls gathered for fellowship and inspiration. Yolanda Moore, their first convert, embodies the spirit of this community. The church has since grown and flourished, led by the late W.C. Moore, Minister Clarence Deason Sr. and Pastor Anthony Ester, who have all served as pastors.

Today, Worthington Missionary Baptist Church continues to thrive. It has a wide array of ministries that serve the community, including the Soul Winning Action Team, the Music Ministry, the Praise Team and the Youth Ministry. And with a bright future on the horizon, the church’s vision is to build new shelters for families in need, and to have all members involved in spreading the message of God’s word. Standing here, you can feel the strength of faith coursing through this community, a testament to the enduring impact of the Worthington Missionary Baptist Church.
