German families seeking a fresh beginning established an agricultural community called Big Cypress. They settled along Cypress Creek. Life was simple but hard work was abundant.
Adam Klein and his wife Friederika arrived in 1854. They were from Stuttgart Germany. Adam had already made his mark striking it rich in the California goldfields. Their arrival marked a turning point. They joined forces with other families. Together they formed Trinity Lutheran Church. It became the heart of Big Cypress the center of their lives.
Adam Klein’s impact extended beyond the church. He was instrumental in establishing a post office in 1884. It was located in William Blackshear’s general store on Spring-Cypress Road. The post office needed a name. The area was named Klein in Adam’s honor. His legacy lived on.
The Klein Independent School District was formed in 1938. It covered 88 square miles of rural land. It encompassed the entire community. The area has lacked its own post office since 1906. It was then served by post offices in Houston Spring and Tomball. This didn’t stop its designation as Klein Texas by the state legislature in 1977.
