How about a climb after our history lesson? We are in Mytikas. This seaside village offers more than just scenic views.

Mytikas is a small village. It sits on Greece’s northwest coast. You will find it roughly 140 kilometers south of Igoumenitsa port. Mytikas is not just any village. It’s a climbing paradise.

A short distance from Mytikas, a limestone wall awaits. This wall is adorned with pockets and huecos. It stands between the Acarnanian Mountains and the Ionian Sea. If you are entering Greece from Italy via Igoumenitsa, Mytikas presents an excellent spot to begin or conclude your climbing adventure.

This climbing area is also known as Voulkos Kamilafkas. Sector Mytikas offers routes for every skill. Most routes fall in the 6a-6c range. Climbers find Mytikas thoroughly enjoyable. The climbing is technical. Good footwork is essential.

Mytikas has around 850 residents. In summer, it transforms into a resort. Small hotels and restaurants dot the Mediterranean landscape. The village boasts a 4-kilometer-long pebble beach. The waters are blue and green. Ancient Alyzia once stood nearby. Kalamos island is just one nautical mile away. Homer mentioned it in the Odyssey. He called it verdant Karnos.

Dimitris Katsoulas discovered Mytikas in 2003. He bolted most of the routes. Iraklis Moysidis, Dimos Yfantis, and Nikos Roditis assisted him. Nikos also handles maintenance for the sector. All routes feature Raumer 316L stainless-steel bolts.

The cliff features vertical to slightly overhanging walls. These consist of ultra-solid limestone. The rock’s colors are grey, red, and white. It’s full of small and large holes.

After 3 PM, shade covers the crag. The mountains to the east and the sea to the west create a unique microclimate. Mytikas is cool in summer. It is mild in winter. You can climb here all year.

Mytikas is named after the cape on the coast. In Greek, the name means nose. The village is near Preveza. You can find nice restaurants and hotels here. One of Greece’s longest beaches begins here. It stretches for about 16 kilometers. The section near Mytikas is Monolithi. It features a sandy-pebbly shoreline. A dense forest lies in the background.

Monolithi Beach is peaceful. There are a few bars and a large free area. Tourists bring their own beach equipment. The sea’s entrance is gradual. The water is crystal clear. Families with young children often visit. The forest offers natural shade. It is ideal for tourists wanting to escape crowded beaches.

Mytikas remains peaceful. It is not overrun with tourists even in August. Preveza is close. You can visit Nikopolis, the Zalongo Monument, and Preveza easily. Lefkada Island is a bit further. The Aheron River and Necromanteio are also nearby.

Mytikas provides a unique blend of relaxation and adventure. Whether you seek historical sites, peaceful beaches, or challenging climbs, Mytikas has something for everyone.
