Can you imagine stepping into a bustling school courtyard just after the war? This is where St Fergal’s Boys National School in Finglas West stands today. St Fergal’s was conceived in the 1950s to address the growing need for education in Finglas, as new houses popped up on the edges of the Tolka River. It opened its doors on September 1st, 1957, after the first sod was turned in March 1956 by Monsignor Glennon. The official blessing took place later that December. Archbishop John Charles McQuaid presided over the Mass held in the school hall. Today, St Fergal’s is a senior national school with students from second to sixth grade. They have two ASD classes. They also boast a dedicated SET team and a HSCL teacher to provide the best educational and emotional support to their students.
