“A beacon of hope,” a woman whispered, clutching her hymnal, as she entered First Corithian Baptist Church in 1994. First Corithian Baptist Church became a temporary sanctuary for the displaced Living Water Baptist Church congregation. Living Water had been searching for a new home. Their pastor, Reverend L.L. Favorite Sr., had recently departed. Their previous location at 2067 Caton Street lacked electricity. They held services illuminated by “an awesome spiritual power”. The kindness of First Corithian Baptist Church and the late Pastor Leroy Jefferson offered a moment of respite. This act of generosity allowed Living Water to continue their services. During this time, they purchased land at 2104 Elysian Fields Ave and 2121 N. Galvez Street for their future Multi-Purpose Facility. This period showcased the spirit of community and support within New Orleans’ faith-based organizations. First Corithian Baptist Church’s role highlighted the importance of helping fellow congregations during times of transition. It became a symbol of hope and perseverance for Living Water Baptist Church.
